PENTECOST AT PILGRIM

Missions

"Living the Mission: Being the Hands and Feet of Jesus in Our Community"

📖 Key Scripture:

Matthew 25:35–40 – “Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these…”
Acts 1:8 – “…you shall be witnesses… in Jerusalem, and in all Judea…”

A. The Purpose of Missions

Isaiah 61:1; Luke 4:18–19; Matthew 28:19–20

  • What is biblical missions? How is it different from evangelism?
  • What needs are missions designed to meet—spiritually, physically, emotionally?
  • How did Jesus model missions in His ministry?

Key Point: Missions exist to embody the Gospel by serving people holistically—soul, body, and spirit.

B. The Importance of Missions

James 2:14–17; Micah 6:8

  • Why is missions an essential part of the Church’s calling?
  • What happens when we neglect the physical or social needs of our neighbors?
  • How do missions reflect God’s heart for justice, mercy, and compassion?

Key Point: Missions are not optional—they are a visible expression of God's love and justice.

C. Why Should We Do Missions?

1 John 3:17–18; 2 Corinthians 5:14–15

  • What motivates believers to engage in missions: obedience, compassion, or gratitude?
  • What role does love play in serving others?
  • What fears or excuses hold us back from engaging in missions?

Key Point: We serve not to earn God’s love but because we’ve already received it, and we’re compelled to share it.

D. The Impact of Missions in Our Community

Acts 2:44–47; Proverbs 11:25

  • What are the needs in our city—homelessness, hunger, education, youth support, addiction recovery?
  • How can missions bring healing and hope to broken neighborhoods?
  • How can Pilgrim Rest Missionary Baptist Church be more mission-minded right here at home?

Key Point: Missions are not just global—they are local acts of love that can reshape the soul of a city.

OUR CHALLENGE

“Find a Need, Fill It”

  • Pray for God to open doors for the church to minister in that area.
  • Encourage one another to take one action step each week to meet a local need—volunteer, donate, pray, or serve.
