Sunday School is open to all. It is designed to provide members with a deeper study of God’s Word to enhance our spiritual lives. Teachers are spirit-filled individuals and they are selected primarily based on their character, faithfulness to Sunday School, faithfulness to weekly bible study and various church programs, and they must have the ability to teach the Bible and be doers of the Word. Teachers are expected to support the Pastor’s vision, obey the ordinances of the church, and to have love, respect, and patience toward everyone. Sunday School meets every Sunday at 9:00 AM. Vacation Bible School is a sub-set of the Sunday School ministry. VBS is planned for one week each summer for members and friends. The intensive, fun-filled learning opportunity becomes a community activity, bringing in local children of families who are not active in the church. The experience is led by volunteers and required many behind-the-scenes helpers. Volunteers can sign up when announcements for VBS begin.
This ministry provides an ongoing core group of volunteers to assist and serve in the various events at the church that require catering services, such as, assistance with funeral meals, wedding event support, special program events, i.e., church anniversary, and pastoral anniversary. This job required food preparation, serving meals, kindness to people being served, and clean-up. Volunteers are welcome.
Deacons are servants of the church. They are spirit-filled individuals that are required to meet the scriptural qualifications set forth in Acts 6:3 and ! Timothy 3:8-13. They are expected to be faithful to meetings called by the Pastor or the Chairman, and are directly accountable to the Pastor. They shall assist the pastor in carrying on the work of the church and are to be an example in spirit, love, devotion, and loyalty to the pastor and the church. As extended arms of the Pastor, they support the Pastor in many of his responsibilities including: serving
communion, assisting with preparations for baptism, benevolence, care of the church property, and ministering to the congregation by visitation if needed. Deacons are selected for training by the Pastor and are expected to complete training classes, workshops, etc. before being ordained.
This ministry provides services to continue the work of building God’s kingdom through ministering as co-laborers with God, the Pastor, Associated Ministers, and Deacons, they help foster spiritual growth and unity within the congregation. In addition, they assist with the Lord’s Supper and Baptism. They are active in the discipleship and evangelism ministries of the church and shall assist in the ordinances of the church. This ministry is open to all spouses of ministers, deacons, and to anyone who would like to be a deaconess.
The Health and Wellness ministry endeavors to promote the health and healing of the church community and beyond, encompassing the body, mind, and spirit. Anyone that has medical expertise or is willing to serve is invited to join this ministry. This ministry provides the tools for people to become physically, spiritually and emotionally healthier through workshops, 5K Runs and Walks, and monthly blood pressure screenings.
Member service’s responsibilities include: 1) Marketing the church to guests and potential members utilizing guest information cards, mailing cards, and follow-up letters. Goal: drive visitor attendance to the church. 2) Hospitality: focus on the welcome and hospitality experience of our guest and members. Goal: create a great impression and remove unnecessary barriers to a repeat visit. 3) Follow up Team: focus on regularly returning church guest to step into our membership or connection processes. Goal: help a newcomer become a regular participant in congregational life. 4) Member Assimilation processes: Goal: Don’t let members get lost or disconnected. Maintain contact with membership through mail, email, telephone calls, etc., and inform Deacons and Pastor when members miss weekly worship three weeks in a row to schedule a possible home visit. 5) New Member Picture Board: Post new member photographs and schedule new member quarterly reception or as needed. Goal: Let new members know they are welcome and the congregation is excited. 6) Church Database Maintenance: maintain updated membership information. Goal: Keep information current so contact with the membership will be maintained.
Man Power (Men 18+) The Man Power ministry serves to promote fellowship and brotherhood among the men of the church while providing opportunities for spiritual growth. Man Power provides a wide variety of services to the church including workshops, annual church clean-up and various other activities.
The Gospel Choir is a critical par of our Worship at Pilgrim Rest and is enjoyed by all. Comprised of faithful members with a desire to sing for the Lord and be available for Sunday Worship, weekday services, special events, and funerals. They are a vital support to the Pastor on church outings. There is room for everyone. They rehearse on Saturday’s at noon, or as needed.
This ministry is responsible for oversight of the church’s finances, and upkeep of the church and property. Membership is based upon nomination by the pastor and/or trustee board, and then voting by the membership.
A greeter is often the first representative of the congregation whom visitors encounter when entering a church. Once inside the doors, Ushers are responsible for conveying the best first impression to members and visitors. They should be friendly, helpful, and personable to every member and guest. Ushers and greeters represent the entire Pilgrim Rest family and are the front-line connection to Pilgrim Rest. If you are friendly and love to smile, become a Greeter or Usher. Pilgrim Rest has adult and youth ushers. They meet on the second Saturday day at 10:00 AM.
Daughters of the King (Women 18+) is open to all women of the church. This group is a community of women whose purpose is to know God and to experience the freedom as a whole person through Jesus Christ, to develop a supportive fellowship, and to expand the concepts of mission through participation in the ministries of the church. This ministry is committed to building the entire woman and enhancing the quality of life utilizing Biblical principles. It is committed to equip, empower, and enrich women to become productive and progressive members in the world around them. This ministry is based upon building up women that emphasizes the characteristics of the virtuous woman in Proverbs 31:10-31.
Soldiers (Ages 2-17) The Youth Ministry provides Christian nurturing, education, leadership training by sponsoring activities that are age-appropriate for children and youth. The ministry provides leadership for the worship services each third Sunday of the month. They meet every Saturday at 11:00 AM. Parental support and involvement is required.
